Puppy Love

Benvenuto! I haven’t always been into social media, so blogging is quite foreign to me. I was in an undergrad program in the late 2000s, and I refused to join Facebook like all my friends. A very ostracizing move at the time. Ben has been encouraging me on the daily, wanting me to get started on writing so we can get started on sailing. With that motivational piece in mind, we have been working through the financial details and ironing out life responsibilities. It’s about time I get to typing (if only ’cause I refuse to give him ANY reason to feel superior, of course! We gotta keep him and his ego down real low so we can all fit on the boat). So, of course my first post is going to be about dogs!

Last night I woke up late and climbed out of bed for a quick bathroom visit. Yup…. tinkle time. If we are going to go on this journey together and sail into the sunset, then we are going to get real personal a times. Let’s get into it. 😊 When it’s this late at night, the animals stay in bed when I make those late-night runs. But my freshly 1-year-old Belgian Malinois puppy has been sick to her stomach something fierce after having swallowed parts of an indestructible toy. That’s right – “indestructible” they say as I pick plastic chunks out of vomit soaked sheets….. She had been feeling terrible and it was my honor as mom to help her feel safe and comfortable while her body and stomach adjust to the terrible diet she has imposed upon herself. So, when this highly independent, sweet girl followed me into the bathroom late night, turning her body into mine, and wrapping her toes betwixt my own… my heart just melted in the love. I wish I had gotten a picture! It was too precious, despite the intimate circumstances.

Those small moments help remind me to prioritize what’s most important life while we plan a successful sail into the sunset. The safety and happiness of my crew is first and foremost (as safe as sailing can be, that is). I believe Ben and I can create a life filled with freedom, beauty, and adventure for the whole family. And if you decide to join us on our journey as we share our trials and tribulations, then you get to be Italian, too. Welcome to the family!
